Two Pieces or One Piece? The Great Swimwear Debate

For many years there has been a debate about whether two-piece or one-piece swimwear is better. It may seem like the benefits and advantages of each are obvious but there is much more here than meets the eye. Here are five questions to ask when trying to choose between two pieces or one:

1. Who is the swimsuit for? When purchasing kids’ swimwear for children any from babies up to the tween years, you should start by considering what is appropriate for their age. Today there are even teeny bikinis available for toddler girls and while you might think it’s cute and alright because she doesn’t have anything to show off yet, the fact still remains that she is just a toddler. Kids’ swimwear should cover them up in an appropriate fashion, especially when going out in public.

2. Does it provide adequate sun protection? Sun protective swimwear is rapidly becoming popular because of rising concerns about skin cancer. As more people become educated about the elevated risk of developing skin cancer later in life, it becomes clearer just how important sun protection is. The first line of defence is your swimsuit so make sure that it has a high ultraviolet protection factor.

3. Is modesty an issue? Some women (and men too!) simply don’t like to show too much. Whatever your reason for being modest is, you can rest assured that modesty also comes with higher levels of sun protection, especially if the suit you purchase has a high UPF.

4. Are you concerned about how you look in the swimsuit? Every body is different so the same swimsuits will not look good on everyone. Only you know what you feel comfortable in and what makes you feel good about yourself.

Whether you go with One-Piece Swimwear or two, it is important not to forget other sun protective essentials like a wide brimmed sun hat and high EPF sunglasses. Skin cancer is a very real danger, and the risk of developing it increases significantly every time you get sunburned. For children the risk increases even further because studies have shown that just one or two sunburns during childhood greatly increase the likelihood that the child will develop some form of skin cancer as an adult.

Of course women of all ages are concerned about whether men will find them sexy if they wear a one piece suit instead of a two piece but what’s truly sexy is the confidence that comes with knowing you made a choice you’re comfortable with.
